Guess who has been named the unofficial captain of Women's 2nd Fencing Team. I am still wondering if this would be due to my age, my "experience" (what experience?), or this so-called sassy/fearsome temper I am supposed to have. Anyway, I hope I will be up to the task, being able to guide a parched team to some matches in absence of the real and true captain. At least I know Beth and I are maintaining the spirit. I prefer not to wonder about what the others could be thinking or feeling about this.
The truly good news here is that I will be wielding a foil (brand new in the best case) for almost five days and be closer to that warm feeling in the palm of my hand whenever it touches and feels the cold of the handle.
I want to be better at this. I want to enjoy every parry, disengage, repost and point, whatever the direction they take. And I will because I have committed to do so.
The memories of the Lightwaves delicately caress the back of my neck when I walk the frozen streets of North Sands and wonder what this journey of the bird and the sword will bring.
